One Million More Midwives
A National *Symposium* was successfully organized by *People’s College of Nursing and Research Centre, Bhopal*, in collaboration with the *Society of Midwives*, India (MP Chapter) on the occasion of the International Day of Midwives on 5th May 2026.
The theme of the symposium *"One Million More Midwives”*, was formally introduced by *Prof. (Dr.) K. Punithalakshmi*, Principal and Dean, Faculty of Nursing, People’s University, Bhopal.
The programme was presided over by *Dr. Harish Rao*, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, People’s University, Bhopal,
The symposium was honoured by the presence of distinguished dignitaries including the Chief Guest, *Dr. Usha Ukande*, National President, Society of Midwives, India, and the Guest of Honour, *Dr. E. Premila Thamizhvanan*, Principal, School of Nursing, Mother Teresa Post Graduate Institute of Research and Health Sciences, Puducherry.
A plenary sessions, featuring eminent speakers, *Prof. (Dr.) Soney Toppo*, SOMI President, MP Chapter, and *Prof. Ranjitha Rajesh*, Principal, Mar Baselios College of Nursing, Bhopal. The sessions focused on strengthening midwifery education, workforce development, and leadership roles of midwives in maternal and newborn care.
The symposium witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, students, and healthcare professionals.
